Planetbase

Review

After years travelling in deep space, you finally arrive at your destination. The excitement rises in the colony ship as you are on an orbital standby circling over and over this new planet to find the right spot to build your new outpost. Are you ready to land?

Planetbase is a Strategy/Builder City/Survival type of game in space, where you have to successfully build a new colony on a remote planet. At the start, you have to select where you want your colony ship to land. Then you will meet your team of colonists, which is composed of 7 people (3 workers, 2 biologists, an engineer and a doctor) and 2 bots. The colony ship will have in its cargo a limited amount of supplies, so you will need to build the most important structures first. Solar panel, water extractor and the main one will be the Oxygen Generator. Even a doctor can’t really help if you running out of oxygen! Then, you have to find the right balance between the food chain, parts and buildings supplies to make sure not only your colonist don’t die of starvation (I seem to be rather good at it) and can still build or repair structures. Within some structures you build, you will have to decide what to put in it. For example, when you build a Bio-dome, which is where you will be able to cultivate vegetables, you will have to choose what you want to grow in it, but you will be limited by space. A large building will have more floor space than a medium.

Do not forget to build a landing pad so you can trade valuable resources but also get more people to your outpost when it is self-sufficient. By self-sufficient I mean this; for your current number of people, if you let too many new colonists in too soon, you might beat me in the death by starvation contest!Apart from that, you will have to endure the harsh conditions of the planet and will face sand storms, meteor showers and more.

This is not an easy game, to say the least, and I would strongly recommend going through the tutorial which will give you a really good understanding of the game and its components.

The graphics are very good and the game runs properly. Controls work perfectly and have a good user interface.
I personally enjoy strategy/building city games and Planetbase is one of the best in its genre!
