RosenkreuzStilette

Review

Once upon a time, the few who were born with the gift of magic, known has “Magi,” were prosecuted by the empire, as they were feared by the people. It took a long, awkward battle for them to be accepted alongside the population. Their leader, the count Michael Zeppelin has planned an attack on the empire without telling one of his disciples, “Spiritia,” who was walking happily through the forest with her fairy friend Lilli when the attack begin. Totally surprised by the act of her fellow Magi and its leader, she finds herself in a middle of a revolution instigates by her follow Magi!

Rosenkreuzstilette is a side scroller / platformer /retro game where you play Spiritia who finds herself in a bit of a pickle. Her fellow Magi are unleashing a devastating attack on the people of the empire, which she was not aware of and disapproves of.

The prologue will set up the story and at the end of this level, you’ll have your first fight with Freudia. After winning this stage, you can select one of eight other levels including a second encounter with Freudia.

The levels are very interesting (and frustrating, I may add). Your character can jump, slide and shoot magic lights with her hands to kill enemies, and some of them will drop golden balls after they vanish. These balls will regenerate your health as soon as you collect them. To be honest the hard aspect, apart from beating the Magis at the end of each stage, is to remember how the level is constructed and knowing at what point you need to jump, slide or following a certain path as fast as you can without being struck by beams and other obstacles.  The story is quite good and your character will interact with each of her opponents before the battle starts.

I really enjoy this type of retro game and you will find Rosenkreuzstilette very challenging from the first fight; expect sudden outbursts of rage, but it is fun!

Great pixel artwork with a good soundtrack and you can play with a gamepad or with your keyboard.
