Alicemare

Review

Sadness will probably be at its deepest when you lose a parent or other family member who means so much to you, especially at a young age.  It can be so devastating as to trigger a loss of memory as a side effect. This is exactly what happened to the young Allen, and now he finds himself in a facility with four other children, all of whom have their own story to tell!

Alicemare is a pixel art / adventure/ exploration game where you play Allen, who ends up in an establishment with four other children who have had their own specific experiences.

In Alicemare, Allen has to recover five keys from five worlds for a character named the White Rabbit.  Each of these worlds is related to the children who are living in the facility, including yourself. You will meet another couple of characters; one will be the teacher and the other will be the Cheshire cat, who pop up here and there for guidance.

As you play the game, you will have to resolve puzzles and riddles. The puzzles are fairly straight forward but some of the riddles are quite challenging, and you will need to reflect for a while to successfully decrypt them.

It’s a fairly short game; you’ll probably finish it within four hours. I really like the pixel artwork, the story, and also the soundtrack, which is superb. In terms of the controls, you have to play with the keyboard. In my opinion, the level designs could have been better and I would like to see more puzzles and riddles.
