Urban Trial Tricky™ Deluxe Edition

Review

Urban Trial Tricky is a freshly ported banger straight outta Switch. First released in mid-2020, Urban Trial Tricky brought in a fantastic mixture of two fan-favorite series, Tony Hawk and Trial Xtreme, on a compacted scale and with so much more.

I’m not saying you will get something exactly from Tony Hawk and Trial Xtreme games because the game is super unique but for those who have been around the block with Tony Hawk and Trial Xtreme, brother you guys are going to feel the nostalgia kicking in, with a super unique flavor.

Gameplay: As mentioned, earlier Urban Trial Tricky is taking from the best of both worlds and giving it a unique flavor, with the stunts, style, and panache from Tony Hawk and The Trial Xtreme-style obstacles, goals, and challenges.

Although there’s no storyline involved, without any co-op features, Urban Trial Tricky more than makes it up with its 30 or so levels with each level having one of three different progression requirements.

And like some of its genre brethren, you obtain stars as you pass each level, which you can use to customize your character with outfits, bikes, and tricks to use while you’re pulling off your daredevil stunts.

Controls: Urban Trial Tricky has a weird but functional take on controls for the PC side of the business, but on the hand control it's right at home.

Oh! No, I am not saying it’s bad, it’s just a bit unconventional and takes a little while to get used to with the keyboard. I really wanted to change some key binds but there is sadly no option for it.

But the control support for both Xbox and PS is just Muy Bien! Feels just at home. Sadly I don’t own a controller; had to borrow one for testing. And ya it was good.

The controls are really smooth but with a slight delay; I am not sure if it’s a gameplay choice or not, but it works!

The main issues with the controls are with its key binding choices; why do I have to ride my bike with Arrow keys and perform stunts and tricks with W and S combined with Q to spin and Space to jump higher from the ramps?

But what is really cool about this control scheme is that you can get along with only these few things! And more as you unlock/buy more tricks!

Customization: Not really my favorite part of the game! But I must say the devs did a great job of adding customizable items to the game.

The outfits look good and fit the game perfectly, although I wish I could say the same about the bikes! The bike models could’ve been much better.

World design: Every track in Urban Trial Tricky revolves around unique compact tracks full of unique obstacles, hurdles, and different types of ramps. All of the tracks look good, detailed and they run smoothly.

Since there’s nothing much to add to these levels, they tend to get some added flavors with their backdrops.

Music and sound effects: There are quite a few background tunes apart from the main menu one, which you can shuffle with ( , ) & ( . ); I would like to say these tunes are unique, but they sound pretty generic.

The same goes for the sound effects.
