Trio Adventures

Review

(Early Access Review. As an early access release, you can experience bugs, content and or optimization changes. If you are not excited to play the title in its current state and to help support the title to full release by reporting bugs and requesting additional content, you may want to wait for further development.)

While on a casual trek across the universe, Billy D (our hero) and his two friends are enjoying their cruise through the cosmos, when suddenly something goes terribly wrong. There has been an accident within the ship, and you crash-land on an unknown planet. Billy is separated from his friends; his mission is now clear, he must save his friends and get off the planet. Avoid all the obstacles that stand in your way and the patrolling guards as you collect the stars spread throughout each level. The journey will be filled with peril and death. Do you have what it takes to find your friends and escape from this place?

Released and self-published on Feb. 14, 2019, by the developer, Fase 9 Studios, this is an indie, action, adventure, 2D platformer. The title is currently in early access and has a solid title in place already. I am not sure what the road map for early access is; I have been unable to find any information pertaining to it. I must say this is one of the most complete early access titles I have ever played.  Looking forward to seeing what they turn out on the final release. There is partial controller support, and as you only need directional movement and jumping, it is most adequate for controller use with the title. Graphically, the title is superb.  The artwork is visually stunning, and with a pleasant score, cute characters and hours of gameplay, it is certain to be an instant classic in your library.

Through 3 uniquely different biomes, each consisting of 10 levels, you must avoid the traps and the guards while you collect stars and find your friends. You must collect all the stars to get a 3-star rating, and some areas require 3 stars to unlock the next level. There are no difficulty settings, and I did find the title to be rather difficult. I had my son test also, and even he had a hard time progressing. The hitboxes are really tight, and with the way the levels are designed there is not a lot of room for error with your parkour. So, if you love a good challenging platformer, this one will scratch that itch.

I really loved the layout of the levels, although I found some levels to be quite difficult to obtain 3 stars. The levels were planned with a lot of care.  Although you can progress past most levels without 3 stars, I still always like to beat the levels, as intended. The only issue I really found with the title is that it doesn't seem to work with the Steam overlay. Screenshots are non-functional, and you’re unable to use alt-tab while playing to access the Steam network.  As a screenshot addict, this was a disappointment.
