Thief of Thieves: Season One

Review

Your boss is one of the most wanted men in the world; a man who has the reputation of pulling off the most difficult and dangerous heists ever attempted. No one knows his real name, or what he looks like. All we know is that he is referred to as, Redmond the Master Thief. Lucky you, Redmond has taken you under his wing and you’ll travel the world as part of his team, and be involved in the most incredible heists, in Thief of Thieves: Season one!

Thief of Thieves: Season One is an adventure / choice matters game with stealth elements, which was developed and published by Rival Games LTD on the 17 July 2018. This game is based on the comic books created by Robert Kirkman.

The game starts with the protagonist, Celia Kowalczyk (your character), walking through the airport on the way to the exit. Unfortunately for her, she is going to be stopped by an agent for questioning about her last three months’ whereabouts. From here, you’ll be able to play her most recent four robberies, which have between three to five parts each.  Within these sections, you’ll be entertained with a flowing story, great comic illustrations and superb voice-overs. These scenes will occur at the start and throughout the mission.

The missions have a bit of variation, which is fabulous! Most of the mission will involve reconnaissance, planning, hacking devices, pick-pocketing, eaves-dropping on various characters to get information, and conducting the robbery.

There are plenty of interactions throughout the story. Before launching a part of the mission, Celia will be able to talk to other people on her team and choose how the conversation goes, with three to four different options each time she asks questions or talks. On some occasions, she’ll be able to select one of the other team members into the next section of the mission, which is really cool.

In regards to the stealth element, in most sections of the operation, Celia will explore buildings such as a train station, a bank, a cocktail bar, as well as a house in order to complete tasks.  In these sections, she’ll encounter obstacles such as guards and cameras. She’ll also have to figure out how to solve puzzles to successfully clear the episode. The key here is to be patient, study the guard’s movements, be very quiet as she moves around, and to use the shadows as much as possible so as not to be detected. If she is seen, Celia will need to find a place to hide to avoid being caught. Beware, Celia is not the greatest fighter, and it will only take one hit for her to be knocked down. Fortunately, the game has an autosave each time she reaches a key point within the specific section of the mission and will respawn there if she has been caught.  She can also interact with certain objects (which will be highlighted with a dot above) when she walks close by.  Alternatively, she can use the intuition mode by pressing and holding the right button on the mouse, which will show the details of all the possible interactions.

The characters in this game are extremely well-designed in terms of their personality traits, backgrounds, and how they fit in the story, which is full of suspense and twists.

The comic style of graphics and animations are sensational, and I really enjoyed the soundtrack as well. Absolutely spot on voice-over all way through the game. Well balanced gameplay - I was entertained from start to finish!
