The Great Story of a Mighty Hero - Remastered

Review

Welcome to a world where death is no more, where the dead rise and torment the world. As the world has been almost completely overtaken, you arrive through the portal and the prophecy that has been foretold begins. You must take on the army of the undead and beat the incredible evil that has nearly destroyed the world. You must venture into the world and locate hidden treasures to give you the weapons and armor you need to be ready for the evil that awaits you! You will gather coins and food dropped by your enemies, along with gathering treasure located around the world. Use the food to heal your character, and the coins to purchase upgrades and additional food when needed. Journey forth and defeat the incredible evil and return death to the world.

The Great Story of a Mighty Hero - Remastered is the second title on Steam by developer, DeanForge, and was self-released in June, 2018. Being a remastered edition, you can expect updated graphics over the original release on Desura in Jan, 2015. The game is an Action, Hack & Slash, Indie, RPG Title that I would also tag as Casual. You will speak to Merchants and People in town to learn the whereabouts of mystical weapons and armor to prepare you for the boss of the world. Your adventure will be full of skeletons; some of them will be swordsmen, some archers, and some will be huge generals of the army of evil. Oh, and big hairy spiders. And then even bigger hairy spiders.... (hope you do not hate spiders!)

Your battle begins as you leave the city and discover to what extent the undead have taken over the world for yourself. With your trusty sword in hand, you will hack your way through the mobs of skeletons and spiders that mean to lead you to your demise. Your trusty sword has a magical power you will use with a right click, that unleashes a devastating blow to your enemies. This attack uses up mana, so watch how often you use it.  In between power hits, left click and unleash your fury on the undead with your regular attack. You will also gain special abilities to aid you as you progress. Defeating the boss in the special areas of the world will grant powerful weapons and armor, giving you an advantage when you reach the end of the world to fight the all-powerful evil that has taken control.

The game has a Story Mode and Arena mode. The story mode, of course, has the rpg elements, and the arena mode is just level-based combat you progress through until your demise. The game only has one world map to beat, so it’s kind of short and will not take very long to play through. The Graphics and Animations are done very well; the world is beautiful to look at and the game-play is smooth. The Soundtrack is a little different - one moment you’re listening to a mellow score, then you reach another area and you’re cranked up with Metal! There is a lot of dark humor in the game and the gib-fest is epic; you will be sending chunks of your enemies all over the place as you end their lives! The game is quite casual; with just a little practice most of the enemies are easy to slay. And you will breeze through them with your blades and brawn. The bosses, of course, are harder and will require strategy to overcome.

I had a great time playing through this title. I simply loved the dark humor and graphic art of the game, with many different areas to explore, from crypts to woodlands to searching for treasures. The Boss fight was a riot and required a few attempts to figure out the best technique to beat him!  But I prevailed and saved the world! The blood and gore of the game was a blast also; leaving your enemies in chucks all over the place was very satisfying. Collecting all the coin and food you can in order to buy upgrades and to heal yourself in battle is critical, or else at the end match, with the boss of bosses, you’ll find yourself under-powered and weak.

So now it is your choice; do you desire to free the world from evil?
