The Chronicles of Confucius's Journey

Review

Many philosophers have changed the course of humanity. Some were radical, while others were more moderate. Here you will be able to enjoy some of the ancient quotes from that famous philosopher, Confucius, while casually playing in front of your monitor or widescreen. I wonder what Confucius would say about that! Maybe something like, “Bigger the screen and higher the resolution, better you'll see!” In any case, let's have a look at The Chronicles of Confucius's Journey.

The Chronicles of Confucius's Journey is Casual Match 3 game developed by e-FunSoft Games and published by HH-Games on the 13th of May 2020 on Steam.

The game consists of five chapters, which are basically locations (pictures) where you have to gather a certain number of elements to upgrade the image (four times in total per chapter) through match 3 levels.  You can see which and how many elements you need to collect for each of these upgrades before starting a new stage.

There is no time limit in this game, which make sense as the levels are relatively big, and a few might take you up to 10 minutes to complete.

At the start of each level, the grid will be generated from the bottom of your screen and  creates a shape  as it moves to the top of the screen. Right at the top of your screen, it will tell you how many of the specific items you have to collect to win the level.

The grid will be full of icons, and by having three or more of the same icons touching each other, you'll form a match 3, and these icons will disappear from the grid and be replaced by another bunch of symbols.  Each time you make a match 3, you'll be filling the energy ball which is located on the left side of your screen. As it fills, you'll be able to use special tools to clear some tiles; the hammer will remove one tile while the dynamite will clear four tiles. You can also use the horizontal or vertical firecrackers which will clear an entire line of icons (vertically or horizontally), but you'll need a fair bit of energy to use these tools. The Yin and Yang tool is very good but costs even more energy to activate, and the bomb is the most expensive of all (but extremely useful).

Nice, colourful graphics, and I really like the Confucius quotes before starting each of the levels. You might have some issues playing this game on Window 10. Thankfully, the publisher/developer will prompt a warning before launching the game. Personally, I had an issue starting the game in full screen, but it works fine in windowed mode. Overall, it is a nice Match 3 game, but that's it!
