Steel Empire

Review

The war between your nation, the Republic of Silverhead and the Motorhead Empire has been fought for many years. The Empire has maintained superiority over you because it is a wealthy nation with many resources. The Republic is known for its brave warriors; now it is time to take the war to the Empire. Lead the Army south to liberate the city of Rahl and drive out the Empire once and for all. Time to choose and board your Airship Captain. You can choose a lighter, faster, less-armored plane or a heavier, slower, more-armored plane, depending on your preferences. Choose your level of difficulty;  there are 4 to choose from. Now take to the skies Captain, and lead your nation to Victory.

Steel Empire is a 2D Steampunk themed Classic Shoot’em Up that has been ported and remastered to PC. Released on Steam Sept 13, 2018, by Developer Mebius, and published by Teyon. You will enjoy 7 beautifully remastered levels that retain their classic feel. You can collect Health, Weapon Upgrade, Smart Bombs, Extra Lives and Money along the way. There are also 10 Steam Achievements for the game, which could be difficult to 100% as you have to beat the title on the hardest difficulty. With enough practice it could be achievable, as the game does have a fair replayability factor.

You will be combating a large variety of air and land-based enemies, from tanks, turrets, and missile launchers, and a huge assortment of airplanes hell-bent on your destruction. With a different Massive Boss at the end of every level, you will need to collect as many upgrades as possible to aid you in defeating them. Graphically and Audio-ably the game is excellent, with great steampunk themed visual art throughout the game world, and audio that makes the gameplay come to life! It also features “Full Controller Support”, and is designed for controller use, but fear not - you can still use your keyboard to play.

I had a blast playing through Steel Empire; I loved the multi-directional firepower and the enemies attacking from every direction. The gameplay was continuous sizzling action, filled with brilliant explosions and crashing aircraft. With 7 levels each, broken into a few stages before you reach a boss at the end of each of them. The action will keep you glued to your seat till you reach the end of the game or the end of your wits. I did have an issue with the ported graphics. On my main monitor which is at 1360 x 768, the game fails to launch. I had to increase to at least 1024 for the game to launch and then you still could not see the entire screen, even going to 1920x1080 I cannot see the entire game board. Hopefully, they can address this issue with a patch. Till then just make sure your graphics are at 1024 or higher.
