Spacehole 2018

Review

Prepare yourself for a journey into another dimension, a universe unlike our own. A place where your senses will be stimulated audibly and visually, as well as stimulating your mind with its perplexing puzzles. Take control of your space shuttle and enter the portal to begin your adventure. You will start in the tutorial area and be instructed on all available options for the beginning of the game; from there you will progress to other portals and other zones. Some zones can be reached with just your shuttle, others will require you to use balls and maneuver across the zone in them to enter the portal and to collect gems in the zones for extra points. You will also gain additional powers as you complete zones and find secret areas scattered through the universe.

Space Hole 2018 is the second release on Steam by Developer Sam Atlas, and is self-published. It is the 2nd title in the series, the first being Space Hole 2016, which has a 95% approval rating. It is an Early Access title and in a very good state now, with over 200 levels in the game already. With expected expansion, refining and polishing to be added before full release, which is expected before the end of Dec, 2018. The title features Full Controller Support for those that prefer a controller over keyboard and mouse. The Title does have a Photosensitivity warning because of the Flashing Lights and Colors, which can cause headaches and even seizures in some people (which I am sensitive to myself and prone to headaches from games like it). I had no issues though, with playing a couple hours at a time.

The game is quite an interesting title in the genre; I was not sure at first if I was playing a game or using a virtual drug app. The audio and visual effects are incredible, like a journey into the twilight zone while listening to Pink Floyd. The layout of the zones and levels are fun to explore, and the secrets for you to find across the zones make sure you have plenty to explore. I totally loved the soundtrack; it varied in style to work with the areas you are in and all fit together very nicely. The game play is engrossing and addictive, which was a pleasant surprise as this is out of my normal game style. Though being an Indie game, I am always willing to give something a try. The mechanics are unique and add a fun twist that I did not expect. As you play and unlock more powers for your ship, the game changes up even more.

I really had a lot of fun playing; it was rather easy to get lost playing and a hour would just fly by! I loved everything from the visual effects to the soundtrack and sound effects. Quality of the entire game was what I would consider to be of the highest standards. Many users say the Dev captured the essence of what he was working on creating in the 2016 version of the game and improved it to a work of art. I never played the 2016 version so I cannot actually make this statement, but I do agree it is a work of art. The price for the title is more than fair and is priced at a bargain for the gameplay you get from the title. I would say it is a Gem to have in one’s library.

Are you ready for a journey to another dimension?
