Slide!!

Review

As many of you know, I enjoy playing casual puzzle games every so often. Some are very easy and others might get your brain going at 100 miles per hour! Slide is one of those games that looks easy, but requires that each puzzle be completed in under a certain number of moves and under a certain amount of time in order to earn three golden stars. So, how does it work?

Slide is a casual / puzzle game where you have to move colour blocks to their respective colour tile to successfully clear a level.

First, Slide has over 100 levels to complete and three type of difficulty: easy, medium and hard. The first ten levels are part of a small but good tutorial. Then it will become progressively harder as you complete each of the 25 stages per difficulty. If you manage to do all of that, you’ll unlock another 10 bonus levels.

At the start of each stage, you’ll have a certain number of colour blocks which you have to slide to a checkered tile of the some colour in order to win. Also, it might vary as to how many blocks you have, and how vast or compact the mazes are. Let me tell you it can be a bit tricky, especially if you’re competitive and want to collect three golden stars each time. You can only slide the boxes vertically or horizontally and they won’t stop sliding until they touch either the outer wall or another block. If two of the boxes hit each other head on, they’ll automatically bounce back and you’ll probably lose two moves out of it.

Sliding a box is pretty simple to do; just move your cursor onto a box, click and move your mouse forward, and the box will slide upwards. If you want to slide your box downwards, select it with your cursor and move your mouse backward. Same thing for left and right. Bear in mind that every now and then, you’ll have to coordinate a few boxes to slide at roughly the same time; when they hit each other it will cause one box to stop moving which will allow you to create your next successful move.

Graphically it is well presented and the soundtrack is gentle and smooth. I do think the controls could be better though, especially when trying to launch a box in one direction. Selecting boxes can be an issue every now and then. It can be a bit frustrating if you want to beat the time.
