Reversion - The Escape

Review

Welcome to the first iteration of the episodic world of Revision (3 chapters total). Our protagonist, Christian, is a young scientist who was involved in a top-secret time machine experiment gone astray. Something unexpected happened during a test of the machine and he is now lost somewhere in time. Awakening in a broken-down hospital with no memory of who or where he is, he discovers from the Dr that he is two decades into the future, and the beautiful city of Buenos Aires has been overtaken by a para-military group. The leader of this group of militants has a great interest in him and has put him under lockdown. The Dr. seems to believe it is in his best interests to find a way to escape. You will be interacting and collecting items in the traditional manner of point and click adventure games. Talk to the people in the building and piece together clues as you try to find a way to escape before it is too late.

Released and self-published on Mar 21, 2012, by the developer 3f Interactive. It is tagged as Indie, Adventure, Casual, Puzzle, Point & Click, I have added 2D, and Short to the tags. It features a hand-drawn graphic art style, like games from the golden age of the genre. Well-done voice acting accompanies the title, combining this formula with challenging puzzles to solve, making for a great experience.  Should you get lost in your next move, there is even a hint system in place that is well designed. A fun mix of characters to interact with as you piece together a plan. Lots of interaction items; some useful, some not so much.

I had a great time in this game; it is a grand reminder of the glory days of point & click adventure games. It has a fantastic blend of story, characters & puzzles that was a pleasure to tear into. It was a bit short at under 90 mins for my first playthrough. But for the price of the title, that is still a bargain, so I will not hold it as a negative. If you wish to 100% the achievements you probably need a couple of playthroughs to accomplish this, which does add some value to the title. I love the art style, which is what originally drew me to the series. I am addicted to all the beautiful art the world of gaming has to offer. I also loved the hint system (trust me, I used it a few times as my skill level at the genre is rusty). The way it is designed doesn't allow it to be abused; I found it very useful as it’s more like clues than coming out and telling you exactly what to do.

I still have one of the games in the series to play, then maybe one more playthrough of them all and I will retire the series. I look forward to seeing what projects 3f Interactive has for the future on Steam. I have been wanting to dive back into the genre for a while now as I own a large number of titles for it. This one has scratched the itch (although I think the rash was made worse - lol) I want more. Now it is your time to decide if you want to dive into the realm of Revision; the price is right for the first episode. Come on, it's under a buck; just add it to your cart - you know you want to!
