Outlaws: Corwin's Treasure

Review

How weird would it be to receive a special invitation from someone you don’t know to visit an old abandoned village where an ancient artefact has supposedly been discovered. For me, I’d be convinced it was a scam or a bad joke from one of my friends. But if I was an historian, it just might be the most exciting news of my life, potentially leading to further, bigger discoveries.  Believe it or not, this scenario actually happened to an historian named Mr. William In Outlaws: Corwin’s Treasure.

Outlaws: Corwin’s Treasure is a casual hidden objects adventure game with a few puzzles developed by Urchin Games and published by HH-Games on the 6th of May 2020 on Steam.

The game consists of 15 locations within the village of St. Martica and surrounds.

You play the historian, Mr. William, who has the splendid idea of bringing his wife with him on this trip. It quickly becomes clear that the businessman who sent him the invitation to St. Martica is more astute in criminology than he is in legal enterprises. The penny drops for Mr William when his wife is held hostage and he’s left with a Mayan artefact - an intriguing box which he must open in order to save his lovely wife from suffering tragic circumstances.  Being conned like that would leave you feeling more than a little peeved, wouldn’t it?  But on the bright side, having the task of opening an ancient Mayan box would be pretty exciting.

The gameplay is what you would expect from this genre of game, where you have to hover over the locations to find objects you can use to move forward within the story. In some instances, you’ll need to use a couple of items to pick up another one, but for the most part, you can just use an object from your inventory to free another within the locations. You’ll move back and forth a couple of times between the locations, but no more than that. And if you are stuck, you can use the hint button on the right side of your screen.

In terms of proper hidden and objects puzzles, there are not many and they’re very easy to complete.  Yes, there are a few other little puzzles, but again they are very easy to do. You’ll also be able to interact with a few other characters within the story, and that’s about it. The game is very short, and you’ll probably finish your first playthrough in well under two hours.

The graphics are ok and the game runs very well on Windows 10, which is really good. In terms of controls, you’ll use the mouse all way through as a normal point and click game.
