Nite Team 4

Review

Gather information on targets, search for vulnerabilities within networks, then exploit them to gain access to hidden information. Hack mobile phones, locate and track targets on the move through live drones and satellite feeds, and crack passwords. Anything and everything is possible with the military grade programs at your disposal. If you’ve always wanted to become a hacker, then this is a good place to start and see what it would be like, without the hassle of some agency banging down your door in the early hours of the morning! So, logon to Nite Team 4 Hivemind and remember, hacking is more than just a crime; it's a survival trait.  Hack The Planet!

I would suggest going through the Academy (tutorial) first to get accustomed to the programs you’ll be using. The first part you’ll go over in the tutorial is the Basic Terminal Operations, which is divided up into to six certifications. Each certificate has three stages to complete before you receive your certificate. The first certificate is the Stinger OS Basics; this is your Cyber Warfare and Network intrusion platform. A fantastic piece of advanced open-source and military hacking modules. Everything you do in the cyberworld will be through this. You’ll also have to complete Basic OSINT, Advanced OSINT, Fingerprint, Exploit Database and FoxAcid. Each of these certificates will allow you to perform searches, find vulnerabilities within a network and discover how to exploit those vulnerabilities for attacks.

Completing the Basic Terminal Operations, you’ll move on to Digital Forensics, which has three certificates for you to complete and will guide you through File Browser, XKeyScore Basics and Mobile Forensics. After completing the Digital Forensics, it’s on to Network Intrusion, which consists of six certificates: Set Toolkit, Network, Active Directory, Man In The Middle, Aircrack and News Stream Live.

Upon completing the Network Intrusion, it will be the end of the tutorial for now (you are only half way through the tutorial at this point). There are another four more categories (Command and Control, Elite Training, Signal Intelligence and Stinger OS Advanced) which I guess you’ll go through once you’ve gained enough experience and they become unlocked. Everything you’ll have learnt up to this point will come into play as you head out on your first campaign mission, bounty or open world operations.

There is a campaign to play through by entering the Mission Centre; here you can play alone, or you can co-op with a friend through the missions. There are several objectives you’ll have to complete before moving on to the next part of any mission. An agent will tell you all the necessary details about what your missions are, the intelligent agencies involved, and what must be done to complete your mission; there’s also a slideshow for you to look over wiile the agent explains the details.

Bounties are unique quests which you can accept and complete to help improve your reputation with intelligent agencies worldwide. These bounties will tell you the agency who has sanctioned the mission, the mission requirements, the amount of reputation points you’ll collect for completing the bounty should you decide to accept. These bounties have an expiry date, however, there are new bounties available hourly, daily and weekly from twenty worldwide intelligent agencies. Building and forging a reputation with other intelligent agencies will allow you to unlock rarer and more epic bounties.

The Open World Missions is for those of you who want more of a challenging mission. Real-life objectives and resources will blend with the game to create an alternative reality extension of the game. Each month a new set of missions will be available to you. You can find more information of the latest open world missions and developer updates in the Communication Centre.

Upon completing missions, you’ll receive experience points, along with reputation points with the organisations you are currently working with on a mission. You can also gain experience and reputation points through bounties, certificates, and open world missions. As your experience grows, you’ll make your way up the rank ladder, from a lowly cadet to an elite hacker. As you progress it will also unlock new avatars, badge frames, emblems, agent titles and UI skins so you can customise your profile.

Clicking on your profile in the top left of the screen, you’ll be able to see your current rank, etc. You can also check on your career stats here, Certificates, Missions, Hivemind and Intel will all show you how much you’ve completed on each of these subjects. Your Reputation earned through co-operating with other intelligent agencies is also on display here.

The options are located in the bottom left corner of the screen and they consist of Graphics: Quality, Brightness, Terminal Font Size and Display Particles. Audio: Master, Music, Special FX and Voice volume controls. Featured Skins that you may have unlocked and a link to more skins available to you. Multiplayer: Voice Chat volume, Activate Push-To-Talk and Left Alt For. General: Activate FAY at Every Module and Auto Switch Briefing Slides. Shortcut Keys: List of shortcuts you can use while in the game. There’s also Leave the Game here, should you wish to exit the game at any point.

The developers are available on Steam and Discord should you have any problems with anything, and they also have a forum on their website. The game is early access at the moment, they would like your help in making the game better. Got some ideas for new campaigns, open world missions and bounty systems, or anything else that you feel would improve an already fantastic game? Then hit the developers up; who knows, maybe your ideas will be implemented!

I’ve really enjoyed playing the game so far, even though I don’t know anything about hacking, terminals etc. The Academy is excellent in teaching you how to proceed using the programs on offer to you. I must admit I was stumped a few times in the academy and spent a lot of time trying to progress. Even though I kind of knew what needed to be done, things just didn’t seem to work.  When I couldn’t do something, mostly it was down to me not activating something like a node, or I’d been spelling commands incorrectly; even the best of us have days off from being perfect!
