Like No Other: The Legend Of The Twin Books

Review

Your adventure into the Legend of the Twin Books begins with you recording a message after finally getting out of the office. The legend of the Twin Books is that there is a legendary book which was supposed to have been replaced by a replica book while on display to the public. However, the legend says that this isn’t true and that the real legendary book is the one on display. So, to find out if the legend is true, you set off on your adventure with your first port of call, Red Pines, a city that was devastated by an earthquake many years ago and long since abandoned.

Upon arriving at the city, you take control of Dan.  Details of how to interact and move the cursor are shown so that you know how to get around etcetera. Moving towards an object or item that you can interact with will be highlighted in Orange. A lot of the time you will find nothing, but keep checking as you will eventually find something that may be of use at a later time.

Some items will allow you to open new areas, such as keys that will open doors or windows that are padlocked. There are also small puzzles to complete in order for you to move forward. Some objects can be moved by dragging them around; they may be hiding something, or they can be used for another task, but you’ll have to figure that out. Figuring everything out isn’t very hard so the game could be played by most folk of most ages. To help you on your way there are some details about your current goal in the top right corner.

Any items you find will be stored in your inventory and you will be required to move an item to your hand so that you can use it, such as holding the keys to open locked doors. There are also some Caches hidden around each area for you to collect; they don’t do anything but collecting them all will give you an achievement. Collecting all achievements is quite easy but will require you to play through the game twice in order to gain one of two achievements, depending on which ending you received on the first playthrough.

After completing one area, you’ll take Dan to the next as you search for the museum, which is said to hold the legendary books. Each area will require you to complete something so you can move forward.

The game is very short; even taking my time while I tried to find all the caches, it only took me two hours to complete the game. The game is OK, I didn’t find it to be anything special.  The artwork is good but the story is lacking. Along with the game being short I would suggest only buying this game when it has a substantial discount if you are wanting to add it to your Steam account.

The game did run fine, I played using keyboard and mouse and had no problems. I haven’t tried using my gamepad.

In the options there’s settings for Language (English, Portuguese, German, Spanish, French, Chinese and Italian), Interface Scale, Camera Shake and Pointer Sensitivity Sliders, Resolution, Full Screen, Quality Pre-set, Antialiasing, Frame Rate Limit, V-Sync, Master, Music, Dialogue, Effects and Ambient Volume Sliders.
