Lifeless

Review

What a beautiful destination . . . Stillwater Bay is a great spot for tourism, with a stunning harbour, several villages, small towns, farms and great green fields. Well, that was 10 years ago before patient zero showed its first signs of infection. Now, Stillwater Bay is the home of two factions who fight each other for resources and survival. But that’s not all, Stillwater Bay is full of infected humans. If they have you in their sights, you’d better be either well-armed or a good long distance runner.

Lifeless is an FPS and/or Third Person Shooter/Zombie/Survival game which has been released on early access as I am writing this review. As you launch the game, you will land on polished scenery, which is the current main menu. From here you will be able to create your characters and choose whether you will be part of the Nova Guard, who are a civilian group that tries to find clues on how to cure this terrifying virus, or the Spartan Phalanx, a group of ex-military personnel who believe that the virus was brought on to punish and eliminate people who have sinned. After choosing your faction, you will be able to jump on one of seven available game servers.

You will probably appear in the middle of a forest or a field only armed with a melee weapon, wearing a t-shirt, jeans and a pair of sneakers. Before moving on, check out the map. You will notice that the map is fairly large and well-detailed. Some of the Map will be labelled “work in progress areas” which means the developers are currently working on it. However, you will still be able to explore these areas.

Head up to villages, towns, farms and to the harbor to find food, drinks, weapons, ammunition, health pack and clothes which will help you to survive another day or night. Remember that any resources you find are usually in small quantities. Your character will be able to store up to twenty-six items in its inventory. All you have to make sure of is to keep feeding your character well and stop from time to time for a drink.

As you move around the map, you will face infected humans (zombies) and it can be tricky to kill them with a melee weapon. Finding a firearm early in the piece will definitely increase your chance of survival. Also, when you kill an infected, make sure to look next to him, it may be carrying a weapon or other interesting items.

Nice, polished graphics so far and I enjoy the tense atmosphere. Plenty of items to loot in every buildings. There are a couple of bugs here and there but that is to be expected on an early access game. What I find frustrating is despite having seven available servers, I could not find anybody to play with or against.

This game has potential in my opinion and I look forward to see further updates.

Positives

+ Nice Graphics
+ Tense atmosphere
+ Plenty items to loot

Negatives

- Couples of bugs
- Servers are empty

Review Summary

Lifeless is a work in progress; definitely a game to keep an eye on!
