Killing Floor Incursion

Review

You have been part of the Horzine Corporation security forces team for many years with an exemplary record. In fact, you rise to Lieutenant Status within the corporation forces. What’s weird is that you are hearing the voice of a female doctor, informing you that you were injured early on today by Zeds; you’re in critical condition and in surgery. All you are thinking of is how to clear this deadly virus, the infected, and of course, the Zeds. This is Killing Floor incursion!

Killing Floor incursion is an action game where you immerse yourself in the world of Zeds in Virtual Reality.

As you launch the game, you’ll be prompted with a few a quick steps to calibrate your VR system. Then, you’ll be woken up in the middle of a room by the voice of Doctor Anna Rose. After being briefed about what happened to your good self, you’ll play several very good tutorials. Don’t worry too much, they’re short and snappy.

From here, you’ll be able to choose to play either the campaign or the holdout mode. Both modes can be played solo or co-op (two players). The campaign consists of four levels incorporating three to four stages each. You’ll be making your way through a Farm House, Catacombs, Paris and the Biotics Lab.  If it is your first walkthrough, you must win each of the levels in order to unlock the next one. The holdout mode is basically a survival mode, and let me tell you, it’s hectic. The difference between the two modes is that you’ll be awarded deadly power ups in the holdout mode. There is also a leader board if you are into competitive gaming, which is a lot of fun too.

In terms of the gameplay, I think it’s one of the fastest as well as one of the top VR shooter games that I have had the pleasure to play. Nonetheless, the game has some issues, too.

Most of the weapons feel very good to use and I especially enjoyed the Paris Levels, not because I am French, but because I could use a sniper rifle. I really like to be able to use the bolting system after each shot. I must say that I was not a sharp shooter at first but I got used to it. At first, you’ll only be able to select a pistol. However, as you unlock the next levels you’ll have more weapons at your disposal which you can carry on your chest jacket. You’ll also have a flashlight which you can swap between two modes. One of them lets you see anomalies around the level, such as writing, as well as other things you can’t see with your naked eye.  The other mode, well . . . it will be brighter! It’s fairly easy to use weapons but I must admit throwing grenades and knives could have been better. I figured out how to pull out the pin of the grenade, drop it on incoming zeds, and teleport myself away! Strange tactic, but it worked fine for me. You also have a drone at your disposal. If you are running out of health or ammunition, you can send the drone to locate boxes of ammo or health packs.

Bear in mind that the pace of the game is a bit slower than the original Killing Floor but really fun to play.

In regards to the Zeds, you see all your favourite enemies everywhere and the animations are pretty good.

Graphically the game looks great and the controls are good. However, I did experience a couple of crashes.

Positives

+ Good graphics and animations
+ Campaign and Holdout modes
+ Solo and Co-op gameplay
+ Achievements

Negatives

- No trading cards as yet
- Couple of bugs here and there

Review Summary

A good VR game in the immersive world of Killing Floor. Zed’s dead baby, Zed’s dead!
