Kathy Rain

Review

While Attending College as a journalism major, Kathy Rain gets news from her roommate that her grandfather has passed away and that his funeral is the following day. Returning to the town of Conwell Springs where she grew up so many years ago, she attends the funeral, after which she rekindles a relationship with her grandmother. There is much to catch up on after a decade and a half away; with everything she learns her inner detective is enticed by the mystery of what happened to her grandfather. She begins her own investigation.  As she explores the town and meets its residents you will uncover your grandfather's past and the town's hidden secrets. There are ominous forces at play, and piecing the truth will be an adventure you will not soon forget.

Released on May 5, 2015, by the developer Clifftop Games and Published by Raw Fury, it is tagged as Point & Click, Adventure, Pixel Graphics, Detective; I have added no additional tags. It features an incredible story that is not easy to piece together; you will be challenged to think outside the box. The voice acting is nothing short of exceptional and very enjoyable with over 4000 lines of dialogue. The gorgeous pixel art is top-notch; meticulous work went into its design and this shines through as you play with 40 hand-drawn environments to explore as you piece together the clues. An original soundtrack also accompanies the title.

The only thing I didn't like about the title was the hint system; it really didn't work much as a hint system and was not very useful. I would have liked to have more options to control the graphic and volume settings.

I must say this has been quite an impressive title, and I have had a blast so far in gameplay. As I near the end of the game I kind of hate to see it end, and have been savoring it trying to prolong it as much as I can. The Atmosphere in the game has kept me locked to my screen hours at a time. The dynamics of the title are unique for a point and click, and I have had a riot figuring them out as I play. I think I loved the cut scenes of her riding her motorcycle the most; a very different way to approach moving between levels. I have enjoyed every aspect of the game; the artwork is just OMG, and I often found myself just exploring the scenes. The voice acting - what can I say, I had to yell at the family to hush a couple of times because they were too loud. I would instantly buy a part two, just to be able to spend a little more time with Kathy Rain. That is kind of creepy I know, but what a character they created.
