Infernal Radiation

Review

Infernal Radiation is an early access title that tries to bring in an interesting story concept complemented by its action-adventure gameplay, with a hint of RPG elements.

On Halloween Island, Engineers were testing an innovation. This innovation would make history, trying to extract heat from the depths of Hell, using reactors that obtain the energy from burning souls. But something went wrong; an accident unleashed the Infernal Radiation. The Earth is being contaminated. People are being possessed. An exorcist is needed to help these poor people. Here is where our main protagonist comes in, Cardinal Godspeed, who tries various tactics to help people from the Infernal Radiation of Hell.

Gameplay: The base gameplay brings nothing new to the table, with the generic W, A, S, & D to move and shift to sprint. The gameplay starts right near the burning Halloween Island. While going through the island you will find multiple notes that describe the current conditions of the island and what has happened here.

Walking past the first set of notes, you will find your first obstacle. In order to remove it, you will have to perform an exorcism by hitting the left mouse button. And here you will find the first annoyance of the game; the obstacles re-generate health. At first, I thought this must be some sort of bug or issue, but nope, the obstacles re-generate health. And not just that, they re-gen fast as well!!!

Combat: the combat system itself is simple and fair enough with left mouse clicks to perform exorcisms and right-click to perform some sort of block. For the most part, there’s nothing to complain about here. You will have to time your exorcism and blocks well to protect yourself from hits and deal the most amount of damage.

By far the biggest annoyance in-game would be that you will have to defeat each enemy two to three times. I don’t see any value in spending this much time defeating a single enemy again and again!!!

Dialogues: I understand the game is trying to go for some sort of edgy dialogue scheme. But it failed hard for me. There’s nothing edgy or clever about this, nor do these dialogues add anything meaningful to the game; it’s just a hot mess of words. Bear in mind, it is an early access title at this stage.

World design: Infernal Radiation brings in some unique art concepts and a well-designed world to the table. I was very pleased to see how the dialogue box artworks played out.
