Gaslamp Cases 2

Review

Morgan Johnson is one of London’s finest police detectives who had saved London from a deadly threat. This brought Morgan into the limelight with people constantly showering him with praise.  However, after a while the constant attention began to wear him down. So, he’s decided to get away from London and take a vacation in some remote village. His partner Jack Brown will accompany him.

Jack decides he needs a Jimmy Riddle, so before they reach the village, he gets Morgan to pull over by some trees. Jack disappears into the trees to drain the snake, as Morgan waits by the car. Some time passes by with no sign of Jack so Morgan shouts out “YOU HAVING A TOM TIT???” but there’s no reply from Jack. Morgan goes in search of Jack but without any success.  After a while he gets back in the car and heads to the nearby village that they plan to vacation in. Upon entering the village Morgan spots a girl surrounded by a mysterious storm; suddenly the girl turns and looks at him. A bright light blinds Morgan, who then falls to the ground unconscious.  It is from here that your game begins...

You begin on level 1-1 and the game board tiles are covered with various items such as cheese, bread and vases although most of the board tiles are covered with wooden crates. You will have to match at least three items of the same type; you do this by swapping one tile with an adjacent tile. Matching three or more tiles will then remove those tiles, and any tiles above will fall into the vacated spaces.

Each level has a set of objectives which can be found on the right centre of the screen. Completing the objectives will end the current level in victory allowing you to move on to the next level. Victory will have a popup window open which will tell you the Time it took to complete the level, the Level Score, Stars Earned and Total Stars earned.

Once you’ve completed a level, you’ll be taken back to the world map. The top centre of the screen will show you the game’s progress percentage. In the bottom left corner is Upgrades; clicking this will allow you to upgrade the haunted village, turning it back into the tranquil village that it used to be. You will upgrade various buildings and places around the village, bringing life and colour back to them. Each upgraded place or building will require a total number of stars to unlock; they are greyed out until you have the required number of stars.

Tools can also be found in Upgrades; you can unlock these by collecting various elements and artifacts using them to unlock various tools which can be used to help you out when struggling to complete levels. You can only take three tools with you when playing a level, however. You can choose whichever ones you think might be the most helpful in times of need, although you can get by without using any of the tools, it might just take a bit longer. But there’s no time limit so why rush, plus I think it’s more of a challenge trying to complete each level without the use of any tools.

As you progress upgrading the village, the story about the village and where Jack went will start to unfold. There are five chapters for you to complete and you can upgrade the village twenty times.

In the options you’ll find settings for Sound and Music Controls, Full Screen On/Off and Tutorial On/Off.

Gaslamp Cases 2 is a game which can be played by all ages.  It can be challenging at times when not using any of the tools, which is how I’ve played the game as I don’t mind a challenge. The graphics and artwork are good; nothing special but they get the job done. The game has run without any hiccups.
