Deadly Delivery

Review

Welcome to Deadly Delivery. Take control of your remote control vehicle and navigate through challenging tracks to deliver your package. Travel through towering buildings, across hills and valleys, and parkour over open air, this journey will be filled with pit falls and wild jumps that will at times fill you with rage. Enjoy the pleasant scenery along the way, but don't let your eyes wander too much or over the edge you go! Do you have what it takes to make it to the end?

Deadly Delivery is the first self-published title on Steam by Joshua Harrison Blayney, and was released in June 2018. It is tagged as a Casual-3D-Racing-Difficult-Indie Title. But it is far from casual, so if you're looking for just a casual game to play, this might not be your best choice - it should be labeled as Hardcore, and not Casual, as it will hurt you, it is a tough-as-nails, challenging game. With a lot of trial and error, you can master the courses. This game will test your rage limits as you master the tracks’ vast number of traps and trick jumps, testing your driving abilities to the max. So, you Hardcore fans out there, this title is right up your alley! If you're looking for a challenging racing experience, this one is exactly what you are looking for.

The game is non-linear; there are multiple routes to take while you play each coarse, so you can play it your way.  There are hidden collectables for you to find throughout each level, which the non-linear gameplay works great with. So, it is up to you; work through each level, taking the most direct route (there are markers to highlight the way), or seek out the collectables for the most satisfaction. When starting the game you have a basic yellow-colored cargo, but there are unlockable colors to add some variation to your vehicle. The game graphically is great; it is built with the Unreal 4 Engine, so as you can expect, the scenery and game world in general are of a modern quality.

The game does have a few settings you can customize for the best experience for your pc. It has 4 preset resolution settings of 1280x720 and 1920x1080 windowed or fullscreen.  The title does not currently support 4K resolutions. The game is supposed to have 3 difficulty settings, but I have not found any difficulty settings for the game (trying to get more information in the games discussions). Track your best times and let friends compete against them, or play through again to beat your own times. It also has partial controller support that is adequate for the needed controls in game.

I must admit this game has punished me; I love racing games, but this beauty has taught me a lesson about thinking it is just a game; I can beat this no problem (lol) after a lot of trial and error I am making progress, slowly but surely. The layouts of the tracks are well thought out, and even if you make a mistake, if you are lucky you can land on a different area of the track and continue on. There are many jumps to make with 90 degree corners to navigate at high speeds, which is mainly where I found the most difficult gameplay to be, beside the tracks being only slightly wider than your RC car. If the cars were lowered in size, I believe the game would be a lot better to play. But with practice, you will find you’re able to hit the turns and jumps and rejoice in your accomplishment. The game world has aesthetic beauty with cliffs, mountains, trees and fauna throughout the 3D environment. The track itself is a wooden plank design. The buildings are in grey scale, as is your RC car body, so the contrast will not have you wondering which is the game track and which is certain death.

I really have no major issues with the game.  I would like to see more settings for video added, as I use a wide-screen monitor and the game does not have my resolution in its settings. But it really does not affect the gameplay; I just prefer to play in my native resolution. I would also like to find out how to change the difficulty, as it seems I am not as Hardcore as I used to be in my younger years.  No real game-breaking issues at all.

So now it is time for you to decide . . . Are you Hardcore enough to handle these deliveries?
