Darkestville Castle

Review

Darkestville was once a peaceful place until a boy named Cid came (fell) to town. From an early age, Cid was out late at night performing evil deeds to prank Darkestville residents. And boy, was he good at it! Let’s recap some of his achievements. . .  The explosive park bench (quite deadly if you sit on it), the front door castle trap (the trap door dropping you into a confined cell), and many more evil tricks! The question, my friends, is do you really want to meet Cid from Darkestville Castle? Yeah, you want to - he’s cool!

Darkestville Castle is a point and click adventure game where you play the prankster demon Cid.

You will start the game in Cid’s bedroom at his castle. From there, you’ll be able to hover over items and characters with your mouse and as soon as you see a skull you’ll be able to interact with them. If you think you have missed something, you can use the hint button which will show you where all the skulls are. You can examine, pick up and talk to them. It’s preferable to talk to characters instead of objects, though. Very quickly, you’ll meet Dan Teapot who has managed to lock Cid up in his castle, and even worse, he’s hired the best demon hunter team, the Romero brothers, to capture and to get rid of Cid from Darkestville. Well, that was Dan’s plan which, of course, didn’t work out. Instead, the Romero brothers capture Cid’s cute pet fish, Domingo.

Cid will have to find a way to free his lovely pet and visit colorful locations within Darkestville, but in the process he will accidentally free other demons (which gives him a few headaches). The story is full of humor and you’ll definitely have plenty of good laughs all the way through, with great dialogues and fabulous voice overs. The puzzles are very well done and not hard to resolve. I find it very simple to use and combine items within your inventory, which makes this game even more enjoyable.

Great graphics, the games runs very well and you use your mouse to move Cid around, choose dialogues and pick up or use objects.

Positives

Review Summary

It has been a while since I played this type of quirky and fun point and click adventure game. If you enjoy games like Full throttle and others of the same style, you’ll enjoy this one too. This is great fun!
