Crazy Gun

Review

Welcome to the challenging game that is Gun Crazy, a brutal 2D pixel Shmup/Bullet hell, designed to test your reflexes. It is a very challenging title with an old school flavor, a wide variety of enemies to over-come as well as many boss battles to challenge you. There is some platforming to be done as well; it is not just a run & gun. Utilizing the environment is key to survival among the barrage of bullets looking to end your run. You do have some abilities to aid you - double jump and dash - as survival is not always about who has the bigger gun. Are you ready to grab a blaster and take on Gun Crazy?

Released on Nov. 12, 2019, by the developer Ritual Games and Published by GrabTheGames. It is 2D, Indie, Action, Adventure with Pixel Graphics. I have added the tag Difficult as well. It features a brilliantly colored 2D world with well-done pixel graphics, challenging gameplay, a fun retro soundtrack that fits the game very well. Multiple upgrades to find along your journey to bring the pain to your enemies. Being a difficult title, you can continue after using up your lives like old arcade titles that have limited uses until you are required to restart. Full controller support is also included.

I admit I was pretty excited to get a chance at this title; I do love the genre even though it has gotten a lot harder for me at my age. And I admit the game challenged me. I have still had a riot playing, the more I play the better I have become. Whether or not I ever get good enough to 100% achievements remains to be seen. I did prefer using a controller over mouse and keyboard for the title. I loved the visual style of the title as well as the gameplay. Challenging it was, hardcore it is not; though I won't rate it as casual, it is still a blast of a shooter for the price-line; you really can't go wrong should you decide to add it to your library.

I would have liked to have more settings options. You have no control of resolution; that is auto-set by the game. The only settings you have are audio control and the ability to edit the controller configuration. I did have issues taking screenshots and was unable to take any, so there is an issue with the steam overlay to be patched.

Achievement hunters will want to note that achievements have difficult parameters to meet to 100% them, such as beat the game without taking damage (only 0.8% of users have achieved at this time). At my skill level, I doubt I will ever get to 100% of the achievements. Being only 4 levels, it is a bit short.
