Cavemen Tales Collector's Edition

Review

In a land before time there was a forest where a tribe of humans lived in harmony. However, one night changed all that when a terrible storm and earthquake destroyed their village. With everything wiped out, the tribe found themselves homeless. In the middle of all the commotion you lose your son and daughter, but your wife has a plan to hopefully find them while you rebuild your village. Which is a good thing because Chief Dross, the village chief, is feeling a bit winded and needs to go for a lie down before he passes out.

When you start a new game, you will have the choice of game difficulty. There’s Relaxed (where you play with no time limit although some achievements are not attainable), Normal (where you play against the time limit and if you complete the level quickly enough you will be awarded a medal), and Extreme (where you play against the hardest time limit and if you complete the game within this time limit you will be awarded with a diamond medal. You can change the game's difficulty at any time should you wish to.

To start with you must collect taxes (Golden Nuggets) from the villagers. Collecting taxes will allow you to construct buildings, homes and upgrades as long as you have enough resources. Taxes are collected from the homes of the villagers. When the taxes are ready for collection they will appear above the home. Clicking on the golden nuggets will send someone to collect them and take them back to the main building of the village.

On each level you are going to build homes, and some must have buildings like a Workshop and a Farm. Sometimes these buildings have already been constructed for you, but at times they haven’t, so they’ll be one of the first things you need to build if you want to move forward. The workshop will give you Materials which can be used to build other buildings such as homes, and they can be used in places like caves or to repair bridges.

A Farm is a must-have building as you must keep your villagers fed. When a household needs food, an icon will appear above the house just like the golden nuggets. Clicking on the icon will send someone off to the farm to grab some food and take it back home. It will cost you some of your golden nuggets to buy food and materials.

There are other buildings, such as the Temple, Market, Inventors, Shaman’s Hut, Druid’s Hut and Water Well. Each one will cost materials and golden nuggets to build, and each will give you resources in exchange. Some of the buildings won’t be available to begin with but will unlock as you progress.

Each level has a number of objectives for you to complete. Sometimes you may have to demolish one of your buildings to build another in its place. You may have a Market, for example, which produces Pearls, but once you have reached the limit required or have collected enough pearls to perform a task then you could demolish that building and replace it with one you require.

At the end of each level you will receive a score that will be gauged from the Resources, Taxes, Hidden Treasure, Nature and Happiness and Supplies you end the level with. Hidden within the levels is a Treasure Chest; sometimes it is really well hidden, but a good look around and you’ll soon find it, and when you do it will give you some golden nuggets which could come in very handy.

There is a total of fifty-five levels to complete the game. The story is good, and I like the artwork and the games graphics. The game is fun and relaxing to play and would be ideal for most ages.

In the options you have settings for Custom Cursor, Full Screen, Audio and Effects On or Off. Main, Music and Sound Volume Controls.
