Auto Age: Standoff

Review

The year is 2080 and America is in chaos. With the entire country in ruins, it is divided as it has never been before. The West is controlled by a dangerous gang lord who’s known as Dark Jaw. The East side have the help of the mysterious Artificial Intelligence “SAIGE” who basically restor order and peace. But both are trying to secure the valuable material, Energite, located in the Dead Zone. So, which side would you choose in Auto Age: Standoff?

Auto Age: Standoff is an action multiplayer game where you take control of one of eight cars in a frantic driving battles set in a colourful eighty style cartoon graphics.

Before you jump into a multiplayer game, I strongly suggest that you play the tutorial. I personally really like how the developers laid out the tutorial. You’ll learn all the controls, discover a bit of the background story, and have fun in the process! To be honest I was expecting to play a single player campaign after the tutorial, but unfortunately, that did not eventuate!

After you familiarise yourself with the controls, you can jump into a multiplayer game. Here you can choose to play one of three modes: Deathmatch, team Deathmatch and Point Capture modes. You can set up how long the game will last, which of the four maps you want to play (only one map in point capture) and off you go. From here, you can choose your vehicle, of which there are four per section: light, medium, heavy and tower. Light will be easier to drive, with a limited armour and arsenal. The tower will have more armour and arsenal but will be not as easy to steer. The other thing is that you can change the loadout of your car but you need to make sure it doesn’t go above a certain cost or you’ll not be able to save it.

Then the fun starts, and I must admit PistonSmashed and I had some great rounds, which you can see on my YouTube channel. It’s fast and furious and the bots are actually quite good, I must say. In terms of modes, Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are what you would expect. You need to destroy as many cars as possible until the game finishes. The capture mode is a little bit different; yes, you still have to fight against the opposing team, however, you must stay in a specific area to capture it. If you suffer heavy damage, try to find the pink orbs. They will repair your car to a point as you drove over them.

The artwork reminds me of Borderland, which is very cool. In terms of the soundtrack, it’s ok. Control-wise, it will take you a little while to master; they work fine, however, and are pretty responsive.
