Assault On Proxima

Review

Proxima C5 is one of the outer space stars that had been colonised by humans by the year 2915. But recently, Proxima C5 was invaded by a powerful and dangerous alien race known as the Gacrux. You have been sent with your squad, Strike Force Delta, to Proxima C5 as the lead force to defeat the invaders and reclaim the colony. Are you ready for the Assault on Proxima?

Assault on Proxima is a Sci-Fi first-person shooter developed and self-published by Delta Video Games on the Steam platform on the 13th of May, 2023. This game is currently in early access so the content might change significantly before the full-release version.

The game consists of a single-player campaign of five missions that you also can play co-op, and three PVP modes. As I write this review, I have reached the fourth boss on the single-player campaign and tried to set up a few PVP games with bots as I couldn’t find any live servers when I played the game.

It is unfortunate that the game doesn’t have many followers at this stage, and it is undoubtedly a substantially negative point. Especially as it provides several multiplayer modes. The other downside is that the AI is not the greatest if you want to have a quick go at any of the multiplayer modes by setting up your own games with bots. Yes, it is an early access game, and the content is limited and that is to be expected.

On the bright side, I really like the colourful cartoon-style visuals, and the controls (mouse and keyboard) are smooth and work well. The campaign mode is fun! Each of the missions has several objectives to complete, along with the boss fights at the end of the stage. At the start of each mission, you’ll have to choose one of the four classes available, and also choose your primary and secondary weapons, and a few perks. You’ll have a limited supply of ammunition, but don’t worry about that too much, as there are plenty of ammunition crates, and health for that matter, within each level. You’ll encounter many enemies of a few different looks and sizes between objectives, which is fun. As I smoothly and quickly finished the first three missions, I thought it was going to be a walk in the park to finish the campaign. Nope, I am happy to report that I am stuck at the end of the fourth mission, and the boss is rather difficult to kill. So, we do have a bit of a challenge in this game.

As mentioned, the graphics are good, and I like how the controls feel. But there are glitches and the AI is not the greatest.
