1912 Titanic Mystery

Review

As a descendant of one of the passengers who unluckily travelled on the famous British Ocean liner, R.M.S Titanic in 1912, you have been invited as a guest to travel on its replica, The Titanic II, from Southampton to New York. Will it be smooth sailing this time around or will the ghosts of the past resurface again? Well, here you are, but this time there is a bomb hidden somewhere within the vessel, and you are the only one who can find the explosive and save all the passengers in 1912 Titanic Mystery.

1912 Titanic Mystery is a Hidden objects/puzzle games developed by Mad Data and published by HH-Games on Steam on the 17th of July 2019.

After registering your profile name, you’ll be welcomed by a few members of the Titanic II, who are the Captain, Doctor, Barman, Stewart and Musician who also appear to be descendants of a passenger or crew member on the R.M.S Titanic. Then you’ll be in your cabin where your adventure will start.

In the early stages, the game has three phases per location. First, you’ll have to find 10 items within the image (it could be 10 shoes, knives, coins or something else). Next you’ll be looking for 12 different objects plus a bonus object which is usually split into three to four fragments hidden within the picture. When the bonus object is reconstructed, you’ll be able to pick it up, move it onto a designated object with gears above it, and activate a minigame or puzzle. You’ll have to pick up the reconstructed item and hover over the other objects to see if the two gears will appear. Then when you’ve done that, you’ll be given a page that includes the storyline and information (you have to find a lot of pages to solve the mystery). As you progress, the bonus objects will be less frequent. If you are not sure what an object looks like, you can click on a lifebuoy, but you only have a maximum of 6 at your disposal in any given scene. There are actually one or two of these articles hidden in each stage, so if you’ve already used a few lifebuoys in previous scenes, look around for them, pick them up and reinstate your 6 hints for the next pictures.

I really like the historical facts that are mentioned at the beginning of each scene and throughout the story; they are an excellent addition to the title.

You will revisit scenes a fair bit, and this can be repetitive. Sure, the 10 items and 12 items respectively might change slightly to give a point of difference, but it’s not much. On a positive note, the story is pretty good, and it will take you more than a few hours to finish the game, which is well priced.

Graphically, I have seen better, but it’s ok. Depending on what monitor you use, you might find it a bit difficult to read the text (which, by the way, is very good). In my case, I used a 4k monitor, and I wear glasses, which helps me tremendously on these occasions!

Positives

+ An excellent and well-written story
+ Historical facts mentioned before each scene
+ Fun puzzles/mini-games
+ Good game length for the genre

Negatives

- No achievements or trading cards
- Need to be polished a bit
- A bit repetitive

Review Summary

Relive the journey of R.M.S Titanic on board its replica, Titanic II. But this time around, it’s not an iceberg that you should be worried about, it’s a bomb!
