Me personally I wouldn't buy a pre-built PC, most are built using cheap parts. I did buy a pre-built PC once and it last 6 months since then I've built my own PC's for 20 years using the parts I want and have had no problems with any of them I've built.

As for upgrading it all depends on your current specs, what needs updating, cpu?? graphics card?? While a graphics card isn't a problem updating as any new one will probably run in your current PC. Updating ya cpu is a different matter, can the motherboard you have now take an upgrade? And if so is it worth upgrading.

I have a i5 2400 on a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 motherboard, I can update my Ivy bridge cpu to a Sandy bridge cpu. The cost of upgrading my cpu isn't really worth it, I may as well spend the same amount of money on the latest cpu but then I'd need a new motherboard. Getting a new motherboard could also mean I need new memory as I'm on DDR3 where as the newer motherboards are on DDR4.So overall for me instead of upgrading I'll just built a new PC with the parts I'd like.

Another thing with pre-built PC's is that you can't mess around with them normally, you can't even take the graphics card etc out to clean and if you do and something goes wrong then any warranty you have is void unlike if you build ya own.

Just like Piston, I am not a big fan of pre-built PC's.

Why would you buy a pre-built PC, when you can get a custom built computer for way cheaper which is gonna have better quality?
