Finemore Fillmore: The Westerner

Review

The lonesome cowboy, Fenimore Fillmore, reached the Bannister farm just before the lovely Stella served dinner to her family. Our cowboy had a peak in one of the windows and saw Joe (Stella’s husband) with his feet on the table, and her son Billy riding his wooden horse across the small room. As Billy reached the opposite window (into which Fillmore was peaking) with his wooden toy, the young fellow noticed three incoming riders passing the entrance.  They had a mission to purchase the farm at all costs. Joe, standing in front of them, bravely refused to leave his property. This is where a cactus needle will dramatically change Fenimore Fillmore’s evening! So to every cowboy out there . . . be careful of cactus needles - they can be a pain in the bum AND put you in all sort of predicaments!

Fenimore Fillmore: The Westerner, is a point and click adventure game where you play a young and daring cowboy (well, he thinks so) who tries to help two farmers save their estate from the evil Mr Starek from Starek City. This is a remastered version of the game which was released in 2004.

Personally, I am thrilled to see this version of the game on Steam. I guess it is a bit of nostalgia on my behalf, but boy am I enjoying the trip memory lane! As I mentioned above, one of Fenimore’s bum cheeks had a close encounter with an unforgiving cactus needle. After facing off Starek’s accomplice and thoroughly enjoying an artichoke soup, he discovered that Starek owns the nearby town and has removed all farmers from their land, with the exception of the Bannister and Jones families, who are standing up to him.

Fenimore will not have access to any hints in this adventure, which can be a bit frustrating at times. As he visits various locations, make sure that Fenimore looks inside all cabinets and closets - you will be surprised at how many one dollar notes you can find inside, and you will need to use a good number of them during the game. If he becomes short on cash, he can always go to the Einstein Fair to make an extra dollar or two. Great humour in this game - I am sure you will have a few giggles here and there.

I enjoyed the graphics and cut-scenes and the pleasant western soundtrack. The camera placement is not the best, in my opinion, and I did experience crashes here and there.

Positives

+ Trip down memory lane
+ Good price point

Negatives

Review Summary

Whether or not you have played the original version, it’s definitely a point and click adventure game to own!
