Sniper Elite 4

Review

The invasion of Italy is a turning point in World Word II. The lieutenant Karl Fairburne of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) is sent deep into enemy lines. His job is crucial for the invasion of Italy. But there is another mission to uncover there; the Germans have a guidance missile system that can tip over the faith of the war! Can you step into the shoes of the famous Karl Fairburne?

Sniper Elite 4 is a third person shooter /stealth / action game were you play the Lieutenant Karl Fairburne, an elite sniper.

I have been a fan of this franchise for many years and I was thrilled to play this game at EB Games Expo 2016 in Sydney before its final release. When you have twenty minutes of playtime it’s really difficult to appreciate a game, apart from the stunning graphics.

Well, I have now over twelve hours of playtime and the first big point I can relate comparing it to its  predecessor (Sniper Elite 3) is that all maps are huge and it will take you at least three to four hours to complete each mission (including side ones).

But let’s start from the beginning, the introduction in this game is absolutely splendid, as you would expect with this franchise. You can elect to play a tutorial if you want to (really good idea if you are not familiar with this franchise) and it is about 10% of the first mission. Your arsenal will consist of a Welrod hand gun, a Thompson machine gun and the almighty M1903 Springfield Bolt Action rifle, a couple of medic packs and grenades. As you progress within each level, you will find several other weapons which you can add (mines, tripwires etc) or swap (weapons) quickly and easily. You will find them in crates and houses and next to fallen enemies. Don’t forget to search all fallen German soldiers as they might have ammunition in their pockets. Use your binoculars to tag all enemy soldiers; this will help you know which of them have letters which are part of your side missions.  Another side mission is to spot and destroy the Deadeye eagle statues, which are extremely well blended into the scenery.

The X-ray slow motion is an absolute delight, as usual, and now you can trigger it using your knife in a melee combat. Just marvellous. And yes, the nutcracker shots are still available to the best sharpshooter.

At the end of each mission, you will be attributed experience points which will go towards levelling up your characters and earning coins. Every time you reach five levels (5, 10, 15, etc) you will be able to add a skill from the skill tree. In regards to the coins, you can use them to unlock new weapons.

I am using 2 Nvidia 1080GTX on SLI and the game is absolutely rocking in terms of graphics and performance; I have not experienced any issue whatsoever! The only downside in Sniper Elite 4 is that the online mode is not popular at this stage (PC Version); I tried early in the morning, afternoon and at night and unfortunately I couldn’t find anybody to play with, which is a shame.

Review Summary

This is definitely the best game from this franchise by a mile. Just splendid; a must-have!
